    Busy busy

I usually don't buy DVDs - I don't download movies either... for me, a movie is usually a "watch-once" kind of thing. For some exception movies I enjoy, I would make the effort to buy the original DVD for keeps. This week I bought two titles I had been waiting months for: Up and Star Trek. The Star Trek DVD came with a gag reel that's actually very funny. Zachary Quinto is a pretty funny guy off screen, especially when you consider his Skylar and Spock personas...

I'm currently busy supporting multiple non-core work items... seems more interesting than boring old work. There's the Corporate Planning Seminar (CPS) coming up, which I'm helping out with (meetings... urgh). There's also this small commemorative card we're making for all the staff. And then finally I'll probably be on official overseas trip tp Melbourne for 5 days next month (December).

I must say that preparing for the trip does open my eyes to new things / processes. (CPS less so, since I've helped before on the fringes) I'm the lowest ranking member in that trip, i.e. I'm the peon that does all the arrangements.

BTW my organisation is now SQA certified... through no great effort on my part, haha. My immediate colleagues were more involved. As per all "awards", this just means more responsibility for everyone for that bit of bragging right in the form of the SQA logo. There's a slight increase in the welfare fund for everyone, but thats about it. And frankly, the SQA process is pretty difficult. So this one actually mean something on the corporate level, but far less on the personal level.

    1600+ skips
Took part in the skipping challenge today. Every 20 skips = 1 bowl of brown rice to the charity. We were grouped in teams of 5 and there were about 30+ teams in total. We skipped in segments of 5 minutes, with a rest in between. The total skipping time was 25 min

I have not skipped in ... wow.. I can't even remember when I last skipped ... primary school? Initially, when we all trying out, everyone was kinda awkward with the ropes, but once the event started proper, we kinda managed to get it. At first, before we started skipping, I thought maybe I'll be able to contribute like.. 100 skips? But once we started, the count went up quite fast (esp when you get into the 'zone' ... and you can skip non stop for a period of time) and by the time it ended, I had skipped about 1600+ times :D The really good skippers got more than 4000 counts @_@

My body is seriously aching all over now... >< ... fun event :D but.... really really tiring! Meaningful tho!

No more authentic Wasabi Tei... =(
AWwww... just heard from colleagues that the black face uncle and aunty are no longer there... seems like there was a change in management and the quality isn't as good now... *sad*

Wonder where is a good place for good Sashimi?

Currently reading Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner. Quite an interesting read :) The authors try to explain how the world works by using economics ... by how the world is driven by incentives. Just started, hope to be able to have time to enjoy this book :)

Need.. motivation... to ... get... drawing.. . engine... started.....

    He cries with real tears
Yawn. Caleb was cranky last night... kept crying but we were unable to find the root cause of his discomfort. He's not hungry since CK just fed him, the diapers didn't have any loose strings (which had caused some discomfort for him before), and he doesn't seem to have any gas.

The odd thing is, if I keep him sitting and patting his back (i.e. like when burping him) he calms down to the point that he dozes off... which is weird in itself because after all that patting there's no gas. Stop patting and he starts crying again. In the end we could only keep patting him until his 3-4am feed is up, then pass to CK for feeding. I guess he calmed down after that since we both caught some sleep after this little episode.

The other day we discovered another way of coaxing him to sleep - I just sit reclined and spread him on his chest over my own. He seems to like that. Maybe because he hears the heartbeat or something, and will fade into sleep after some squirming. Of course, gotta watch out that he doesn't squirm off the body... babies have poor sense of balance, probably owing to weak limbs and oversized heads.

He seems bigger again (last week, the paediatrician weighed him... 4.2 kg), and seems more active with his neck and hands. He gets distracted by TV sounds, and was watching the screen calmly sometimes. I would say the first extended period where he does this is probably when I was watching Mushi-shi streamed from my laptop to the TV (get this anime if you can... it's different and nice to watch). He was staring at the screen for about an hour? But it could also be RideBack or even FMA - Brotherhood, can't be completely sure.

    DnD
I was invited to this "Social Media Immersion Programme" by IDA and couldn't help feeling strange about, and actually a bit disgusted by it.

    Session 1: Pictures of success
Provides examples of organisations which have effectively used social media and the resultant benefits.
Session 2. Tools of the trade
Provides an overview of social media tools such as blogs, discussion forums, podcasts, videos, social networks, Twitter, search engine optimisation.
Session 3. How to create a thriving online community
Covers issues such as how to spread the word about a community, how to engage users, how to deal with spammers and bad behaviour.
Session 4. How social media fits in with the rest of an organisation's public communications
Explains how to best use social media as one part of an organisation's outreach and engagement efforts

It's as if the online community is being studied and scrutinised like lab rats by old world marketeers eager to jump on the new media bandwagon thinking they could *still* surreptitiously have a slice of the cheese.

Isn't it like too late now?

This year, I got myself an outfit for DnD. Theme is Fairy Tale, though it's Halloween. Initially wanted Tin Man, but the costume was obviously for some robot. The Shrek overalls made me look like Ninja Turtle. So I finally settled for the Steadfast Tin Soldier, though I couldn't get a top with the English cross. Some colleagues got dressed as vampires and ghouls so they could off head off for Halloween parties later, but they could pass off as fairy tale villains anyhow.
